2025 is rapidly coming to a close. Our centenary year has been a time to celebrate the achievements of our current students and staff. Academic, sporting and cultural successes have demonstrated the ongoing excellence that MSM is known for. I am proud of every student who has embraced opportunities, challenged themselves and contributed positively to our amazing community. Our staff have continued to inspire, nurture and guide, ensuring that MSM remains a place where every young woman can thrive.
We have also honoured those who came before us - the Sisters of Charity, our pioneering staff members and the thousands of alumni who have walked our halls. Their vision, dedication and faith have laid the foundation for all that MSM is today.
Our Class of 2025 have become the newest members of the MSM Alumni and have completed their chapter in the story of MSM. On Wednesday we celebrated “Graduation Day” which commenced with a special Graduation Assembly led by the 2026 College Captains Freya and Katie. In the evening approximately 400 guests joined with the staff and the Year 12 cohort to celebrate our Graduation Mass. This was followed by a fantastic dinner at City Hall. I offer my warmest congratulations to our Year 12 students and offer them this blessing as they stand on the threshold of new beginnings:
May you always carry the values instilled here: love, justice, hope and compassion. May the lessons learnt, friendships formed, and challenges overcome be the foundation upon which you build your future, wherever it may lead.
May you feel the gentle presence of God guiding each step, nurturing your spirit and strengthening your resolve. As you venture forth, may you see the face of Christ in every person you meet, responding with kindness, integrity, and courage.
May your heart remain open to wonder, your mind curious for wisdom, and your hands ready to serve. May you approach each day with gratitude for your gifts and humility for your journey ahead.
We bless you with hope for tomorrow, strength for each challenge, and joy in every achievement. May you be a light unto others, and may your journey be filled with peace, purpose, and promise.
Go forth from Mt St Michael’s College, proud of who you are and confident in what you can become. May God’s grace be with you always, as you live out the spirit of MSM in all you do.
Fide et amore.
Next week students will receive the 2025 College Yearbook “Voices”. This is a special historical record of the events of our centenary year. Thank you to students, staff and other members of our community who have contributed articles. A huge thank you to Ms Danielle Ferris and Mrs Kirrily Gofton for the countless hours that they spent bringing this special publication together.
Thank you for your generous support of our St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. I am always overwhelmed by the way our community responds. Thank you for making Christmas special for those vulnerable people in our society.
As our planning for 2026 continues a reminder that enrolment applications for Year 5 2027 and Year 7 2029 close on Friday 23 January 2026. Details are available on our website.
Thank you for being part of our College family this year. As we embrace the spirit of the Christmas season may Hope guide us, love warm us, justice inspire us and compassion unite us.
I wish everyone a safe and blessed holiday season, filled with relaxation and happiness.
In Faith and Love

Farewell Class of 2025
This week, we came together as a community to honour and celebrate the remarkable achievements of our outgoing leaders with a truly memorable day of festivities. The occasion was filled with joy, pride, and reflection as we acknowledged the contributions of those who have guided and inspired us throughout the year. The Graduation Assembly and Dinner stood out as highlights, thanks to the tireless efforts of Ms Olivia Lennon (Year 12) and Mrs Paula Brydon (Year 11). Their dedication and attention to detail ensured the events ran smoothly, providing a fitting farewell for our graduating students. Attendees were moved by heartfelt contributions from staff and students alike, sharing stories of growth, perseverance, and friendship. Emotional moments were abundant, as many reflected on their journey, and the enthusiastic singing of Fide et Amore united everyone in celebration and true MSM spirit. The final Guard of Honour was a sight to behold with our Year 5 students leading the College to form the joyful archway out of the Sophia Centre. The spirit truly was alive for our class of 2025 right up until their final moments. We extend our gratitude to all who played a role—whether by organising, participating, or simply attending—and helped make these events a resounding success.
School is Almost Out!
As the school year draws to a close and students begin working through final assessments, it’s natural for fatigue to set in. The pressures of assignments, exams, and extracurricular commitments can leave students feeling drained. During this time, parents play a crucial role in providing support and encouragement, helping their children navigate the challenges that come with the holiday period. Parenting is never easy, and it’s important to remember that you’re not alone; many families are facing similar struggles and uncertainties. Psychologists offer valuable advice for this time of year to help parents and caregivers support their daughters effectively:
Above all, remember that parenting can be challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. Every family has its ups and downs, and it’s okay to seek help or share your experiences with others. As we head into the holiday period, we wish all parents and caregivers good luck, patience, and plenty of memorable moments with their children. Together, we can help our young people finish the school year strongly and look forward to a restful, enjoyable break.
IS YOUR FAMILY READY FOR THE SOCIAL MEDIA DELAY ON 10 DECEMBER?
Social Media Delay
A reminder to our College community that from 10 December young people under 16 will not be allowed to create or hold accounts on certain social media platforms. Some social media platforms have started sending notifications to children aged 13-15 and have given them until 4 December before their account access will start being revoked.
The eSafety Commissioner advises that parents and caregivers can help their under 16s by talking openly about the age restrictions, finding out how they currently use social media and how that may be impacted by the new law.
There are no penalties for under 16s who access an age-restricted social media platform, or for their parents or caregivers. Penalties will apply to age-restricted platforms that fail to take reasonable steps to prevent under 16s from having accounts on their platforms.
Information and resources to support parents and caregivers, and young people to prepare for the change are available at the eSafety Social media age restrictions hub and 30-minute webinars are available for parents and caregivers.
Also visit the Mt St Michael's College Online Safety Hub for more trusted safety advice around social media, gaming, screen time, bullying, cybersafety and digital parenting advice.
Parental Controls (Qustodio) - Excellent for managing devices over the holidays
The Qustodio Parent App is available as a free tool for MSM parents and is licensed for both the school laptop and an additional device (phone/tablet). Qustodio enables you to take an active role in your child’s online journey with robust online safety features. This enables you to supervise your child’s online activities on their school-managed device outside of school hours and during the holidays.
With Qustodio parent app, you'll have the ability to apply:
✅ Filter content: Block inappropriate sites, ensure online safety.
✅ App & Game Management – Block distracting or inappropriate apps to keep your child focused.
✅ Manage screen time: Set healthy limits, foster balance.
✅ Supervise YouTube: Keep an eye on their video viewing habits.
✅ Alerts and Reporting: Receive real-time notifications.
✅ Oversee activity: Stay informed about your child's online activity.
To start using Qustodio, go to http://www.qustodio.com/my-school. Please be sure to use the "Parent 1" email address the school has on file. This will then make the connection to your daughter’s device. Add additional parent/caregivers to your account once you have established your Qustodio profile. Go to the Account Settings and choose “Additional parent” to add. Visit this article for further information and instructions.
This video (4:06) has more information about how these tools will help you keep your child safe online: Introduction to Qustodio parent tools video.
The Council of Catholic School Parents NSW/ACT asked Dr Michael Carr-Gregg, one of Australia's leading psychologists, author, and broadcaster, to help educators and parents and caregivers with children under 16 prepare for the upcoming changes to social media platforms.
In this 30-minute video, Dr Carr-Gregg explains what social media is, how the age restrictions will work, why it is happening and how it will affect families and schools. We invite our MSM parents and caregivers to take time out for half an hour to watch this video so that they understand and are equipped to handle the impact of the changes on their families, it may be a challenging time of transition but protecting our young people is a worthy end goal

Their determination, perseverance, and commitment to learning have been evident across all areas of school life, truly reflecting the spirit and values that define our community.
Our students have achieved outstanding academic results across a broad range of subjects. These successes are a testament not only to their hard work but also to the dedicated teaching staff who have supported, guided, and encouraged them throughout the year. As we reach the end of the school year, it’s a wonderful time to pause and celebrate the growth, achievements and memories we’ve shared together throughout the first year of Year 5 at MSM!
We are looking forward to the students displaying many of their skills and talents at next Wednesday’s Year 5 Semester 2 Learning Showcase. The students (and adults!) have been working tirelessly to prepare for an evening of engaging performances and demonstrations of learning. It will be a very fitting culminating event to the Year 5 journey.
We are very grateful to you, our Year 5 parents and carers, for your support and collaboration this year. Whether it’s been helping with homework, cheering from the sidelines, your involvement makes a huge difference. Your partnership with us has created a strong foundation for student success.
I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to the Junior School staff – Mrs Kate Marsh, Ms Kate Toohey and Ms Jen Roberts - whose passion and commitment have enabled our students to thrive this year. The staff have gone above and beyond to provide safe and engaging learning environments for our Year 5 students.
We are so incredibly proud of the way in which the Year 5 students have embraced challenges, supported one another and celebrated each other’s successes this year. We are excited to continue walking the journey with them next year in Year 6.
As we head ever so closer to the summer holidays, we encourage families to enjoy time together, rest and recharge. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the new year, ready for fresh opportunities, new challenges and more wonderful memories.

Your willingness to ask clarifying questions and high engagement in learning tasks has enabled you to make great gains in Year Five. Keep up the super effort. You should be proud of all you have achieved.
Addison (5H) - Addie, you are commended for consistently demonstrating resilience and a growth mindset each day at MSM. Your growing confidence and independence are evident across all areas of school life, allowing you to truly flourish. Keep up your outstanding effort, showing determination and perseverance in all you do.
Emmy (5L) - Emmy consistently demonstrates genuine respect and kindness towards everyone she encounters. Madeline’s commitment to learning and consistent effort have been commendable. Keep up the great work.

Students of Japanese enjoyed watching the film, “366 Days” as part of the annual Japanese Film Festival at the Palace Barracks. The students followed the story of bubbly highschooler Miu and softly spoken senior student Minato as they navigated a life away from their quiet Okinawan village. The film highlighted the importance of finding the courage to follow your dreams and the value of friendship. The students and teachers had a valuable and enjoyable experience attending this event.
Japanese students in Years 9 and 10 enjoyed a recent visit to the Japanese Consulate. After learning about the varied role of the Consulate in Queensland and the opportunities for them to study and work in Japan, the girls tried on yukata (summer kimono) and explored Japanese food sample creations. Ii benkyou ni narimashita (We learnt a lot)
The College kitchens were bursting with the smell of ginger and spice as the Environmental Group got festive in a Christmas cooking class!
Students from Years 7 and 11 teamed up to bake, ice, and decorate the cutest gingerbread biscuits and Christmas tree cupcakes. These freshly baked treats were snaped up quickly at the Christmas ExtravaCANza!
During their Positive Education lesson time, our Year 5 and Year 10 students were thoughtfully paired together, encouraging collaboration and mentorship as they engaged in Remembrance Day activities within their House groups. Students worked side by side to create vibrant poppies, discussing the significance of Remembrance Day and sharing personal reflections on its meaning. Once the poppies were finished, the students carefully placed their handmade flowers in our Peace Garden as a tribute. This shared experience fostered a sense of community, respect, and remembrance.
MSM Year 10 students who have recently completed their Certificate II in Sport and Recreation took on a leadership role by organising and running a dynamic session for the Year 5 students, filled with a variety of engaging physical activities. The senior students spent time planning the event, carefully considering age-appropriate games and exercises to make sure everyone felt included and challenged. Throughout the session, the Year 10 students demonstrated excellent communication skills and encouraged the younger students to get involved, try new things, and support one another. Not only did the Year 5 students benefit from increased confidence and teamwork, but the Year 10 students also had a valuable opportunity to put their learning into practice while strengthening connections across year levels.
This term, Year 9 Economics and Business students worked on a project designing plastic charms for a major retail brand which they presented to students at the Middle School Assembly. The charms were to meet a specific brief and students worked together to survey classmates regarding their charm needs and ideas.
While survey responses were being collected, students tinkered using Tinker CAD technologies to develop initial charm ideas. Charms were decided upon to send to the 3D Printer to produce, using data from survey responses. A print advertisement was also asked from students for their final response to the Task.
Thank you to the Year 9 students for completing the survey for use when evaluating. Thank you to the teachers Ms Webb, Mrs Desailly and Mr Cooper; and the IT Team for supporting this project for Term 4, 2025.
The rain didn't dampen the spirits of our Year 5 students on our Gala Sports Day. Even though the weather kept everyone indoors, the girls showed wonderful enthusiasm and adaptability. Instead of enjoying outdoor physical activities as originally planned, they channelled their energy into a range of engaging and challenging games within the classroom. These activities encouraged teamwork, creative thinking, and problem-solving, ensuring that the day remained a memorable and enjoyable experience for all involved.
We were delighted to welcome our Year 5, 2026 students to MSM for our Orientation Morning. Thank you to our Year 8 students, who will step into the role of Big Sisters for the Year 5 cohort in 2026, for their enthusiastic participation throughout the morning. We also appreciate our Year 5 students, who showed great courage in speaking to the group, sharing their insights and helpful advice as the Year 4 students prepare to become part of the MSM community next year.
Our Year 5 students hit the court for their final CaSSSA Junior School Sports Gala Day of the year, taking part in a basketball competition. This event marked the conclusion of a fantastic year, during which students embraced the challenge of competitive sport and demonstrated outstanding growth in both skill and teamwork.
The CaSSSA Board remains committed to providing high-quality, inclusive, and sustainable sporting opportunities for students across our member schools. In reviewing the current structure of our inter-school sport offerings, the Board has made several considered adjustments to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Association from both a resourcing and financial perspective.
From 2026, the following changes will take effect:
These decisions were not made lightly and reflect careful consideration of participation trends, financial pressures, and the evolving needs of our member schools. Grass hockey has seen a continued decline in participation over recent years, while 9-a-side AFL’s modified rules have not supported meaningful skill progression for students. Team numbers in this competition have also been challenging for several seasons.
The adjustment from eight to seven rounds is intended to improve student attendance and engagement throughout the season, while also helping to alleviate the growing financial strain associated with rising transport and operational costs for schools.
The CaSSSA Board remains focused on fostering an engaging, enjoyable, and sustainable sporting environment that encourages participation, teamwork, and school spirit. These refinements will allow the Association to continue investing in the sports and programs that deliver the greatest benefit and opportunity to our students and communities.
